S'Hort Des Rei Gardens

S'Hort des Rei was formerly a medieval garden located right outside the walls of the Almudaina, where in 14th century King Jaume II of Mallorca planted fruit trees and different flowers and vegetables. Also some animals such as rabbits were kept in this garden. In the 1960s, as part of the recovery plan of the Almudaina Palace, a new garden was designed by the Mallorcan architect Gabriel Alomar, combining traditional elements of Mallorcan gardens with Andalusian inspiration elements, like the pond we see nowadays. We must say this new layout has little to do with the original medieval garden, but it's a nice haven of peace in the middle of the city. The arc facing the swan's lake is an original construction of arabs' period, dating back 11th century.
