Cala Saona Beach

Cala Saona is the beach of the touristic village with the same name, located between Punta Rasa (at 700 metres and 18-metres high cliffs) and Caló d'en Trull, and it is situated at five kilometres from Sant Francesc Xavier. In this natural setting which belongs to Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès de Cap Alt nudism is allowed. This beach is surrounded by two cliffs and it is still nearly virgin, although there is a small touristic building, it has fine-grained white sand, a system of dunes at the rear, a thick pine wood around this coastal corner, open toward west, some escars (typical dry docks), very gentle slope (at 40 metres from the coast there is a depth of two metres), crystal clear water and a sandy ground which invites you to dive. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good in this u-shaped sea inlet. This cove is open to the wind from the west-northwest-north, and the depth reduces gently, so that the best anchorages are located in front of this beach at one hectometre. At 70 metres west from Punta Rosa there are some rocks at a depth of two metres. Cala Saona is situated on the West coast of Formentera, only a short distance from San Francisco, this small, deep horseshoe shaped bay's sandy beach is backed by red rocks, something rarely seen in coastal landscapes. Add to this clear turquoise water with picturesque fishing boats and Cala Saona will have you reaching for your camera as soon as you arrive! As the water in the bay is quite shallow it gets warm very quickly. A little further around the cove some rocky inlets allow private bathing. There is a hostel, a lovely beach bar and some good quality restaurants above the bay.
